Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers M A/M Sc, M Phil and Ph D courses jointly with the North Campus. The courses provide theoretical background in core subjects like Analysis, Algebra, Mechanics and Differential Equations and optional courses in Pure and Applied Mathematics including Numerical Analysis and Computer Programming with practical training at South Campus Computer Centre.

On the research front the Department presently specialises in Operator Theory, Harmonic Analysis, Functional Analysis, and Abstract Differential Equations. The faculty members interact and collaborate with international experts, which are facilitated by exchange visits under different schemes.

The Department organises conferences/seminars/workshops at the international/national/local level on various topics related to research, education and career guidance in Mathematics and its applications for the faculty and the students.

The Department also organizes events, which provide forum for activities such as Paper-reading, Quizzes, Mathematical films, lectures and interactive sessions on career-guidance.

The Department has set up a Biomathscience Study Group jointly with Inter-disciplinary and Applied Science Faculty.  It organizes lecturers by scientists who have effectively used Mathematical Sciences in Biosciences.

It is possible that some or all the teaching with respect to this Department may take place in the North Campus.
